The October challenge for A Blog Named Hero is Texture. I think my final card shows a couple ways to get texture on a card; from ink to paper to paste.

Hero Arts Winter release had a set of ornaments that included, layering stencils, stamps and dies. They immediately reminded me of vintage glass ornaments. My husband and I love to go to antique fairs and I am always drawn to the beautiful vintage glass ornaments in bright pinks, reds and teals. This card was inspired by those ornaments.

I started by using reactive inks in Taffy, Pool Party and Key Lime Fizz and the stencils to ink blend a bunch of ornaments using the stencils. I made about a dozen ornaments total but only used a few on this card. I die cut each one and then went to town using Hero Arts Hero Paste, Sparkle Lacquer pen, Ultra Fine Prisma Glitter and some other lacquer pens from previous My Monthly Hero kits. I didn’t have a plan, I just played with all the stencils and embellishments. Some of the ornaments warped a little so I die cut another set and adhered them with precision glue. That helped to flatten them. I also die cut just the toppers from mirrored paper to give the ornaments a finished look.

For the card base, I stamped the String Dots bold print on Peony cardstock with Unicorn White pigment ink. Trimmed to slightly smaller than A2 and adhered it to a card base.
For the sentiment I used the Christmas Holiday stamp and cut XL. I die cut the shadow from new White Glitter paper. Then I ink blended a scrap of cardstock using the same reactive inks I used on the ornaments. I die cut the sentiment from that ink blended scrap and adhered it to the glitter paper mat.

I added some lines for the ornament strings and lined up the ornaments. I popped up the sentiment on foam for some dimension. I still have a bunch of leftover ornaments so I’ll definitely be creating more of these cards.
