Weaving a Background

8.2.2021

Well I’m back with a card I created for the August challenge for A Blog Named Hero. This month we are challenging you to create backgrounds. I love Hero Arts background clings so this was a bit of a challenge for myself.

For the background I wove strips of Hero Hues Sand cardstock to represent a basket. I cut 3/4 inc strips of cardstock and then used Cocoa ink and a blending brush to add color to one side of each strip. Then I lined up 8 strips together and temporarily taped them to my glass mat. I wove each strip through and lined them up until I had a piece that was about the size of a card base.

I trimmed it down a bit and added a dot of precision glue behind some of the strips so it wouldn’t fall apart as I played around with placement. I really wanted a more organic look but I was fighting against myself because I prefer things to be lined up and straight.

I adhered a Cranberry mat to a cardbase and then adhered the woven piece to that at an angle.

The Strawberry color layering stamps and line art sets made the focal point super easy. I die cut the strawberries and stacked it for dimension. The sentiment is also from the Strawberry Line Art set.

I hope this card gives you a little inspiration to think outside the box (or strawberry basket). I think I am going to experiment with weaving some more paper, Hero Arts cardstock is such a great sturdy cardstock and perfect for weaving.

A Blog Named Hero has gone through a couple of changes recently due to some technical issues. To enter your creation and a chance to win a Hero Arts gift card, post your creation to Instagram and use the hashtag #ABNHAugustChallenge. Happy Crafting!
